Bio: Born in Siberia (yes, really), in a small town in Irkutsk region. Grew up in a small town in Tula region in central Russia. Went to college in Tula to study French and met an English major. Hated him at first, but married him a year later. Hard to believe, but after 24 years, we are still together and our son just started school. After college we went to New York, where my husband studied finance and I studied... (you guessed it!) Russian. Got my PhD in Slavic Languages from Brown. Went back to New York, and then, after almost 20 years, we got back to Tula. Unlike Moscow and St. Petersburg, Tula is a typical Russian city. Today, I'm looking at Tula and Russia and notice things I didn't pay attention to before.
